Product Review: Acavallo Arena AluPro Safety Stirrup

I’ve been using the Acavallo Arena Alupro Safety Stirrups for over a year now and I can honestly say - they’re great. The Acavallo Alupro’s have a wide footbed and an intense cheese-grater style tread to keep your foot in place; even with an oiled arena, my feet stayed in place.

The Alupro’s are a safety stirrup. They have an arm that opens up when pressure is applied in the event of something going wrong, eliminating your chances of being dragged (via the stirrup anyway). Luckily I haven’t officially tested out how well the arm opens up when I come off, but when I do, I’ll update this post

The Acavallo Alupro’s cost $230-$250 Canadian - a fair price to pay for added safety and fairly competitive with comparable stirrups. There are less expensive alternatives, but there will be no comparison in quality.

These stirrups are made with aluminum – making them fairly lightweight, a stainless steel replaceable tread (I haven’t seen much wear and tear on mine - I expect they will last a long time), and a very durable polyamide material for the arm and footbed below the tread. Overall, the Acavallo Alupro’s are very well made.

Acavallo Arena Alupro Cons

  • The aggressive tread can mark up your stirrup leathers and flaps, so be sure to grab some stirrup covers!
  • Expensive
